Northmoreland Park Master Plan / New Soccer Fields Coming

Having worked with Brandon Simpson, Assistant Director and Greg McCloskey, Director of Public Works for the past few years, we are very pleased to provide our members and the community with the current Master Plan for Northmoreland Park (Click Here to View Master Plan Drawing).  With several significant projects on the plan we will focus on a just a few in this update.

New Soccer Fields at Soccer Center in Phase II

New Soccer Fields at upper Field (main fields near concession) in Phase III.

Also, they are developing a destination Play-Ground at the Park, walking trails and more!

Soccer Under the current plans Phase II:

The County wants to develop the Soccer Center with new fields, drainage, parking, walking/hiking Trail Loop #2, and restrooms (which are in process now). This plan provides a New Full-size soccer field at the soccer center (next to soccer center entrance – left on this drawing). They have included backstop netting for the end lines. They want to expand the area that was U12B and U10B allowing up to four small fields in this area (or two U11/12 fields), this includes drainage to reduce the water coming down the hill. They want to expand the lower fields giving us the ability to set three fields in the bottom area (where U12A sits now) and includes drainage and backstop net systems. They want to expand the field behind the Barn (current U10A). They have parking mapped out for each of the areas, new parking for full size field, parking near Maintenance building as well as parking for the lower fields.

Soccer Under Phase III:

Develop level fields (with ability to drain water) at the Main fields- Most of the work will be across from concession stand – Level the area from far end to near end allowing placement of fields for all In-house ages. They will extend this area to add another U9/10 field next to the existing U11/12 field. Netting systems for U9/10 and U11/12 fields.

This also includes topdressing and seeding the existing full-size field with a small extension, to allow us to move the field back and forth (helps with maintaining goal areas).

As plans go, we will have some adjustments as this develops further. The general layout provides you with what should be very exciting information for Northmoreland Park Development and the future of the KASL program at Northmoreland Park!

When you combine the work from Soccer Center and the upper fields, this will represent the largest undertaking the County has made in support of KASL and the soccer community we serve Over $1 Million Dollars.

We are very excited to share some of the news with you today and we look forward to the support that is needed from our members. The projects require several more steps before moving forward and will be done in phases to allow us to play in one area while the other is under construction. We are a year out from any work, but you will be kept updated as this moves forward.

After looking at the two areas on the attached map you will see this is a great opportunity for KASL growth and for more people to enjoy the park on a weekly basis.

Once complete we will have one of the best facilities going!!

We will be sending out the information for the March for Parks taking place on March 21st. We have been asked to have a strong showing at this event. KASL will be getting all Travel teams involved as well as all In-House teams. The County is asking for us to support them by getting people to attend this event and have a strong visual showing. As they are working on the funding side of things, they need us to show up strong (wear KASL gear).

What is the March for Parks? The March for Parks (MFP) is an annual event organized by Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation, to have fun while raising funds for park improvements. Funds raised are used to match state and foundation grants, and to leverage other funding from a variety of sources.
